Hi, Charlotte. Can you tell us about your role at One Nexus?

My official role is Operations Lead for the Finance team, ensuring that the operational finance in the automotive division runs smoothly. More recently, I’ve taken on a maternity cover position as Operations Manager, which means I’m now also overseeing the Customer Service and Damage & Compliance teams. It’s certainly a busier role, keeping an eye on everything at once and helping to resolve issues as they come up, but I’m thoroughly enjoying the challenge so far.

What is your experience in the automotive industry so far?
Honestly, outside of One Nexus - not a lot! Joining One Nexus was my first full-time job and over the last 8 years, I’ve learnt a huge amount. I’ve been lucky enough to work in every role on the Finance team as I have progressed through the business and built-up lots of experience along the way.

How has your journey with One Nexus been so far?
Fantastic. I joined when I was 19 as an apprentice, and I’ve had the opportunity to try my hand at a wide range of roles and develop my knowledge across the finance department, as well as damage and insurance claims, and picking up some insight on customer service along the way. I’ve built a lot of confidence over the years - it’s hard to believe now, but I was so shy when I first started! Thankfully, everyone made me feel really welcome from day one. In 2019, I started to pursue my AAT qualification, and the business supported me as I completed Levels 2 and 3 alongside working full time.

What would you say you enjoy most about your job?
I would say the people I work with - I have had amazing managers since I’ve been here who have supported me and encouraged me at every step of the way, and now I get to do the same for others. I love helping the team develop and grow - it’s something I take a lot of pride in. I also enjoy the variety; no two days are the same. And I’ll admit, I actually enjoy diving into a good Excel spreadsheet or getting stuck into a detailed report!

What was it about One Nexus that made you want to get involved?
To be honest, I dropped out of university part way through my first year and applied for a Business Admin apprenticeship without knowing what company I'd be working for! I still remember sitting in my group interview listening to Heidi explain about the business and the programmes they ran at the time and feeling like I was in over my head. Once I started the role, things started to click and I quickly realised how much I enjoy learning and developing new skills. One thing about One Nexus is that every day is a school day - even after 8 years, I’m still learning new things all the time.

Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing?
I absolutely love travelling and exploring new places. At the start of this year, I was lucky enough to go on a dream honeymoon with my husband, visiting Singapore, New Zealand, Australia and Thailand, and over the last couple of years we’ve been trying to tick off as many new countries as possible. Outside of that, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, walking my Cockapoo Barry around our local fields and woods, and reading a good book. I also love live music - my Dad has been taking me to gigs since I was about 12 so I’ve grown up around it. I also enjoy baking (but don’t worry, you won’t be seeing me on Bake Off anytime soon!)

Finally, what is one thing you would like readers to know about yourself or One Nexus that they might not know already?
I’m currently studying towards the AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting outside of work - partly to challenge myself and partly for the continued personal development. I started this alongside planning our wedding in the first half of 2024, so it’s taken more time than I initially anticipated, but I’m still loving the personal challenge. As for One Nexus: One thing people might not realise is just how highly the company values its employees. It’s the kind of culture that brings out the best in people and makes it a genuinely enjoyable place to work.
